Google Lays Off Hundreds of Employees, New Reports Claim

If there’s anything that we’ve learned with the tech industry over the past years, it’s that any company—no matter how small or large—is not immune to the threat of layoffs. Take for example Google, which recently laid off hundreds of personnel from its Pixel, Android, and Chrome divisions.

The layoffs were reported by The Information (and subsequently confirmed by Google), although at the moment there are no specifics regarding any products or teams that were affected heavily by the layoffs. A statement from a Google spokesperson reads:

Since combining the platforms and devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January…

Last year, the company underwent major internal restructuring, with Google veteran Rick Osterloh heading a new team within Google that will oversee the company’s Pixel product line, as well as more streamlined integration with AI products.
