Samsung Galaxy G Fold could debut as Samsung’s first tri-fold phone

Huawei took the lead last year with the Mate XT, the world’s first proper tri-folding phone. And while everyone figured Samsung would answer quickly, here we are, well into Q2 2025 — and still no rival.

That might change soon. Famous tipster Digital Chat Station claims Samsung is about to launch the “Samsung Galaxy G Fold,” its first-gen tri-fold phone.

Details are still pretty thin, but early leaks hint that the Galaxy G Fold could sport a 9.9-inch main display when unfolded. That’s just shy of Huawei’s Mate XT, which stretches out to 10.2 inches (read our Mate XT breakdown here). It’s not clear yet if Samsung will mirror Huawei’s form factor or go its own way.

One thing that’s becoming obvious, though: Samsung doesn’t expect the Galaxy G Fold to be a mass-market device. Digital Chat Station reports that Samsung plans to limit its availability, treating it more like a tech showcase than a blockbuster launch. Which, honestly, makes sense. The Mate XT has reportedly sold about 420,000 units so far this year — a fraction compared to Huawei’s more traditional Mate X6, which has moved closer to 1 million.

Still, the Galaxy G Fold could arrive later this year, dropping alongside Samsung’s more “normal” foldables — the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 — plus the first-ever FE version of the Flip.

If the Mate XT proved anything, it’s that tri-folds are real — and maybe more useful than we thought. Now the only question is whether Samsung’s version can push it to the next level.
