Galaxy Ring wireless charging upgrade could ditch the case

Samsung might finally bring Galaxy Ring wireless charging straight to the ring itself. Right now, the only way to juice up the Galaxy Ring is through its charging case, which also supports wireless charging through Qi2 or Galaxy phones with Wireless PowerShare. But if you try to place the ring directly on a charging pad? No luck.

That could soon change. A newly uncovered Samsung patent hints that the next Galaxy Ring might charge wirelessly without needing the case at all. The patent, spotted by 91Mobiles, describes a ring with built-in wireless charging tech. Drop it onto a charging pad or a phone with reverse wireless charging, and it’ll top up its battery just like your phone does.

To make this work, Samsung’s design adds sensors that detect if the ring is placed correctly on the charger. If it’s not, your phone will send you a notification. Once the charge kicks in, you’ll see helpful info like battery level and charging status on your phone screen.

Of course, a patent doesn’t always mean the feature is guaranteed. But this Galaxy Ring wireless charging idea feels like a natural step. Samsung has been exploring other upgrades too, like a self-adjusting fit and temperature tracking. Some of those sound a bit out there, but wireless charging built directly into the ring? That feels well within reach.

We’re still waiting on more details about the next Galaxy Ring. Hopefully, more leaks and teasers will pop up soon.
