Google Issues Recall for the Pixel 4a in Australia

Following Google’s troublesome update for the Pixel 4a earlier this year, it looks like the Australian government is now requiring the tech giant to issue a recall for the phone, which also gives buyers in Australia the right to a refund or replacement.

For those unaware, Google announced back in January that it will be rolling out an update to manage battery performance on certain batches of Pixel 4a units, advising users that battery performance might be impacted as a result. However, many users were quick to point out that the update severely impacted the battery performance on their devices.

As such, the official page of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has now issued a statement regarding the recall of the Pixel 4a, stating reasons such as user safety that may be compromised with overheating batteries.

The ACCC now urges Pixel 4a owners to check if their device has received the dreaded software update, and to check if it has impacted their phone. Pixel 4a owners may then be eligible for an appeasement from Google.
