According to an exclusive report from Windows Central, Microsoft is reportedly developing its own Xbox-branded handheld gaming consoles. The best part is that you won’t have to wait too long. The report says that Microsoft will release the console later this year. It makes sense that Microsoft wants to explore the handheld scene.

The company has seen an increase in monthly active users, thanks to its acquisition of Activision-Blizzard which gave it access to titles such as Diablo Immortal, Candy Crush Saga, and Hearthstone. This suggests that gamers are more interested in games they can play on the go, and a handheld console would address the need for it.

If the report is accurate, this would be Microsoft’s first foray into the handheld scene. The company has been made Xbox consoles for over a decade, but those are consoles designed to be played at home. The report also notes that the next-gen Xbox console has been approved and is expected to arrive in 2027.
