It’s finally here – after weeks and weeks of teasers and hype, Nothing’s newest Phone 3a series is finally official, building on the brand’s already unique and expansive smartphone lineup. That said, the 3a series consists mainly of two devices, the “standard” model and a Pro model, which at this point you might have already seen courtesy of Nothing’s marketing campaign.

The two phones share a lot of similarities – both come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset inside, with comes with a tandem of 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. Both the 3a and 3a Pro also feature the same AMOLED display which measures 6.77 inches, with a 120hz refresh rate and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness. Furthermore, the two phones also come with 5,000 mAh batteries compatible with 50W charging speeds.
The 3a series devices also feature “Essential Space” which is accessible via a dedicated side button, which gives you access to AI features baked directly into Android and Nothing OS. By now, you’re probably wondering what Nothing is up to with this naming scheme, and we wouldn’t blame you. At the same time though, you’ve got to believe us when we say that there is a key difference between the two devices.
This mostly takes place with the camera setups in each phone, which is easily seen with the design of the camera module on the rear panel. For starters, the Nothing Phone 3a features a 50MP main camera based on the Samsung GN9-DL sensor, a slight difference to the 3a Pro’s Samsung GNJ sensor, which also comes in at 50MP. This difference also carries over to each phone’s telephoto cameras, with the 3a packing a Samsung JN5-based 50MP telescopic lens, in contrast to the 3a Pro’s 50MP periscope telephoto camera, which uses the Sony LTY-600.
Even the front cameras are somewhat different, with Nothing opting to use a 32MP front shooter for the 3a, and a higher-resolution 50MP snapper for the 3a Pro, both of which use Samsung-made sensors. Only the ultrawide camera remains the same, with both devices using an 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor.

With that said, you’re saving a bit more cash should you decide to get the Nothing Phone 3a – it’s priced starting at $379, which is considerably cheaper versus the $459 pricing of the Nothing 3a Pro. Given the number of similar hardware specifications shared between the two handsets though, the ultimate deciding factor will depend on which kind of camera setup you’d prefer.
