While it isn't the most important feature to have on an Android device, expanding a phone to a PC-like experience just by connecting to an external display can come in handy, especially when you need a little more power and freedom. We've seen Samsung push this kind of setup with DeX, and it appears that Google is also making an effort to highlight this type of experience with its next Android release.
