When Apple officially announced Apple Intelligence, the company revealed that it had formed a partnership with OpenAI. This would allow users to access OpenAI’s ChatGPT for more advanced AI-related tasks and functions. It also revealed Apple’s plan to potentially give users a choice on which AI model they wanted to use. Now, according to reports, Apple could be getting ready to integrate Gemini into Apple Intelligence.

According to a post on X by Aaron Perris, the latest iOS 18.4 beta code has revealed that Apple is getting ready to bring Gemini to Apple Intelligence. The option for both “Google” and “OpenAI” were spotted as alternative AI models, suggesting that Apple is bringing Gemini to iOS. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it does look that way.

We can’t say we’re too surprised. Despite being rivals in the mobile space, Apple and Google have worked together multiple times in the past. The most notable partnership would be Google Search, which is the default search engine on Safari, an “honor” that Google had to pay Apple billions of dollars for.

While there are plenty of AI models out there, Gemini and ChatGPT are some of the more well-known mainstream ones. Apple could have picked another AI model, but if users weren’t familiar with it, they might not use it. Last but not least, notable Apple analyst and insider Mark Gurman did hint that Gemini could be coming to Apple Intelligence in the future, so this code seems to corroborate those claims.
