New Netflix movies: every original film you can watch on the best streaming service in May 2025
These are the biggest new Netflix movies that have debuted on the world's best streaming platform recently.

Our new Netflix movies list has been looking quite bare over the last few months. That's because the world's best streaming service isn't pumping out as many new movies as it used to.
But, Netflix is still releasing new original films for us to enjoy and, as the midway point of 2025 approaches, it seems like it'll be ramping things up in the weeks and months ahead.
For now, I've added its latest English language offering – Nonnas – to this guide. For more suggestions of what to watch on Netflix, check out our best Netflix movies article. Alternatively, jump to the end of this piece to learn more about the new films that'll be arriving between now and the end of the year.
New Netflix movies: May
Nonnas
Release date: May 9
Runtime: 114 minutes
Age rating: PG-13 (US); 12 (UK)
Cast: Vince Vaughn, Susan Sarandon, Talia Shire, Lorraine Bracco, Brenda Vacarro, and John Manganiello
Director: Stephan Chbosky
RT score: 82% (critics); 76% (audience)
A feel-good and heart-felt flick, Nonnas stars Vaughn as Joe, who opens a restaurant with four Italian grandmothers following the death of his own mom.
A comedy that hasn't been panned by fans and critics alike, Nonnas might come across as quite schmaltzy and saccharine, but it's nonetheless funny, endearing, and at-times incredibly emotional. In an era where Netflix comedies usually flop, I'm as surprised as you are to see one be received well!
New Netflix movies: April
Havoc
Release date: April 25
Runtime: 107 minutes
Age rating: 18 (US and UK)
Cast: Tom Hardy, Jessie Mei Li, Timothy Olyphant, Luis Guzman, Richard Harrington, Xelia Mendes Jones, Justin Cornwell, and Forest Whitaker
Director: Gareth Edwards
RT score: 67% (critics); 36% (audience)
Tom Hardy teams up with The Raid director Gareth Edwards for an incredibly violent action thriller that, at the time of this article's latest update (April 25), has been received pretty well by critics.
In it, Hardy plays Walker, a bruised detective who fights his way through the criminal underworld of his city to not only rescue a politician's son, but also evade the numerous gangs who'd love nothing more than to take his head.
We sat down with Hardy and Edwards to discuss all things Havoc-related, including the possibility of the pair making another movie together, how Edwards and his stunt team crafted the film's epic action set-pieces, and why Hardy considers Havoc to be his most physically challenging flick yet. So, read those pieces before or after you've seen it.
