Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 could feature a downgraded S Pen

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature an S Pen, just like its predecessors. However, a report from @kro_roe on X suggests it might be downgraded in some way. The reason? Samsung wants to make the phone thinner and more compact.

We don’t know exactly how the S Pen will be downgraded, but there are a few possibilities. For example, Samsung could reduce its pressure sensitivity, remove certain Bluetooth-powered features, or even tweak the design. A less advanced S Pen could also impact latency, making it feel less responsive. Whatever changes are coming, they likely won’t be upgrades.

Rumors suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be based on last year’s Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which was a thinner version of the Fold 6. However, this new model is expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which should bring performance and efficiency improvements.

While a thinner foldable phone is appealing, the decision to compromise on the S Pen raises concerns. Samsung markets the Z Fold series as a productivity powerhouse, and a less capable S Pen could hurt that experience.

This isn’t the first time Samsung has made its S Pen worse. The new Galaxy S25 Ultra also has a downgraded stylus. The company removed Bluetooth connectivity from the device. Samsung cited low demand for some of the S Pen’s Bluetooth features as the main reason. If this trend continues, Samsung might be shifting away from prioritizing S Pen functionality, which some users won’t be too happy about.
