Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers of OLED panels. The company’s OLED displays can be found in a variety of our gadgets, including those made by other companies. This includes companies such as Apple, who have relied heavily on Samsung all these years for display tech used in their iPhones, iPads, and more. This year at MWC 2025, Samsung is taking the opportunity to showcase the advancements they’ve made with their OLED technology.

Thinner, brighter smartphone displays

One of the standout innovations is Samsung’s On-Cell Film (OCF) technology, designed to boost OLED brightness while maintaining energy efficiency. Unlike conventional OLEDs, OCF eliminates the need for a polarizer by integrating its function directly into the pixel structure. The result? A 1.5x increase in brightness without additional power consumption, making OLED screens clearer and more visible in bright environments.

For smartphone displays, Samsung is pushing peak brightness to an impressive 5,000 nits under certain conditions. This technology is expected to make OLED panels significantly more readable in direct sunlight, which is particularly useful for mobile devices.

Samsung is also showcasing an ultra-thin 0.6mm bezel OLED, marketed as providing a “bezel-less” experience. This means smartphones and other devices can offer larger displays without increasing the device footprint, a practical benefit for both mobile and laptop users.

Additionally, Samsung is doubling down on multi-device OLED consistency, ensuring that users can experience seamless color reproduction across smartphones, tablets, laptops, and TVs. Unlike LCDs, which often display inconsistent colors across different screens, OLED technology promises uniform vibrancy and deep blacks across devices.

Larger foldable displays

Samsung continues to push boundaries in foldable display technology. The company is introducing an 18.1-inch foldable OLED, dubbed the Flexible Cabinbag, which folds into a briefcase-like form for portability. When unfolded, it offers a large tablet-sized display, bridging the gap between portable and productivity-focused devices. We can imagine that this tech could be used for larger tablets or even laptops.

Samsung is also showcasing an interesting 3.38-inch diamond-shaped OLED, intended for the exterior screen of foldable phones. This unusual form factor could be a sign of future foldable innovations beyond traditional rectangular displays.

Gaming displays

Gamers have something big to look forward to—a 500Hz QD-OLED monitor, making it the first of its kind in the industry. This extreme refresh rate is aimed at ultra-competitive gaming, where milliseconds make a difference. In addition, Samsung is unveiling 240Hz OLED laptops. This means that displays with fast refresh rates no longer have to be limited to external monitors—gaming laptops will soon gain a more competitive edge for professional gamers who need to game on the go.

That being said, Samsung has not mentioned which products will be using its new OLED technologies. However, these advancements are quite exciting. We know that most of this stuff happens behind-the-scenes, but we are looking forward to seeing how other manufacturers can take advantage of this technology for their future products.
